October Reading Wrap-up
Time for my monthly book summary, this month I went away for a week to Disneyland Paris so I didn't manage to get through as many as usual.

Favourite Childhood Books
Were you a big reader when you were a child? I was and I'm so glad I grew up with a passion for reading. I was never one of those kids who had lots of friends who I would see outside of school, so a high percentage of the time I spent outside school I either had my eyes glued to a games console or head stuck in a book.

My first ever Disneyland Paris trip
This week is a non-bookish post because last week I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time and I had the best time ever. I'm so sad to be back and living a normal, non-Disney life again.
Also I want to show off the 5 different sets of ears I wore over the 5 days, because the three makers deserve all the love and attention. I've put the links to their Instagram's at the bottom of this post.

REVIEW! These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
I don't usually have a book review as my weekly post, however I'm currently in Disneyland Paris (head over to my Instagram stories at @captainfurby to see my daily updates), but next week I'll be back to normal with weekly posts.
So anyway, this book came in my August Fairyloot and I really liked the sound of it, I also won a giveaway for the ARC. I buddy read this book, but I couldn't manage to stick to the daily pages and finished it a couple of days ahead of everyone else.

How a book box subscription has changed my life
So at the beginning of September 2017 I signed up for a Book Box Club subscription, I had never even heard of book boxes until just over a month before when I met Libby and Kate at YALC. Warning, this post is going to be very soppy!

REVIEW! The Lost Witch by Melvin Burgess
So this was the book in the July box of Book Box Club, and its the first book I've been angry and disappointed with. It also worries me how many people are giving this book more than 1 star on Amazon and Goodreads... I would give it none if possible.
There are no trigger warnings, despite this book containing grooming, abuse, rape and victim blaming. This review will contain SPOILERS, and lots of probably incoherent rambling because this book made me angry!

My Auto-Buy Authors
I think the title is pretty self-explanatory but basically this is just a list of the main authors I automatically buy the books from when they release a new book. There actually isn't as many as I thought there were. (Also below book wall from YALC this year because I'm still in love with it).

REVIEW! Jinxed by Amy McCulloch
This book came in my August Book Box Club and I really liked the sound of it, also helped by the cat silhouette on the cover. As with the other Book Box Club books, I buddy read this one, although this time the buddy read involved 8 of us being in the same room reading it.

Author A-Z Tag
Something a little different for this week's post, I got this from Jen Campbell's Youtube Channel - here. Some of these were really hard to pick just one author and one book, but I think I did pretty well, although I am annoyed I couldn't find any authors beginning with 'X' and had to settle for there just being an 'X' in the name.
Also below is just a glimpse of part of one of my bookshelves...

REVIEW! Leah On The Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
First off I'd like to say that I did not read this as quickly as I read Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda BUT I loved it just as much (if not more).
I also need to stress how important it is that you read Simon before you read Leah, otherwise Simon will be completely ruined for you as this takes place a year after.
But this review, like my Simon review (which you can find here), is spoiler free!!!

REVIEW! Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton
Heart of Thorns by Bree Barton was the book we got in the July box of Fairyloot, which as always had some amazing bookish goodies in. Also as well as sprayed pages this book isn't actually released until early September so we got this really early. I buddy read this with some friends (some of whom read ahead and finished the book early cause they couldn't put the book down) and I have to admit I almost did read ahead on more than one of the days.

My LFCC/YALC 2018
It's safe to say that this year's YALC and LFCC was the best (and most expensive) weekend of my life. I came home with 22 new books, memories with some of my favourite people and the knowledge that I have now met all of the living actors who have played Doctor Who (I need Jodie to be announced next year so I can continue that achievement).

I actually have this author's other book S.T.A.G.S but haven't got round to reading it yet, but after reading this book I'm definitely bumping S.T.A.G.S higher up on my TBR.

YALC Preparations
I can safely say I have never read so many books in such a small amount of time but YALC has given me the motivational (and sometimes stressful) kick up the butt. I have read 15 books in preparation to meet the authors at the three day YALC weekend and the only thing I regret is having to drop 4 books from the TBR because I ran out of time.
So lets go through the list of books I've read in time to get signed this weekend

The Fictional Bucket List Tag
Whilst reading through Wonderfullybookish's blog I came across the idea of this tag (where she featured as a guest blogger here)
So your fictional bucket list is a list of things; places to go, people to meet, things to occupy yourself with in the fictional world. I'm not going to limit myself to books, this can literally be anything fictional.

REVIEW! War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
My heart is broken that this series has ended, but oh my. What. An. Ending. The Red Queen series was recommended to me about two years ago by a colleague I worked with at the time (I could always rely on Anna to recommend good books to me). I borrowed Red Queen off her and while I was halfway through the book, I ordered myself a copy of Red Queen and Glass Sword. I got through them quite quickly then had a six month wait for book three, Kings Cage, with only the two novellas in Cruel Crown (Queen Song and Steel Scars) to keep me happy. However, the year and a half wait from finishing Kings Cage in February 2017 to War Storm in May 2018 was worse though. But after the book signing I attended (which you can read about here) my wait was over and I have now finished the series...
WARNING! This review will have spoilers; I honestly tried to write this review spoiler free but I couldn't do it.

Current TBR pile(s)
I have absolutely no control with books, because of this I have piles of books dotted around my room (as well as on my book shelves) that I haven’t read yet. I constantly try to put myself on a book buying ban so I can catch up on reading, but it’s a hopeless cause.
I thought I’d share my current ‘to be read’ pile with you, I’ll give you fair warning, there's a lot....

Fighting against my anxiety (with a book signing)
For those that know me, they know that thanks to my anxiety I’ve never been able to go to any kind of event on my own. I’m talking book signings, comic cons, cinema, concerts - you get where I’m coming from. Because of this I’ve missed out on more than I can count; friends who would usually come with me to these things don’t always necessarily have the money or time (which is obvious as they have their own lives and can't always babysit a 20 something).

REVIEW! State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury
This was actually on my list of books to buy for a while, but it’s a good job I didn’t get round to that as it was the book for Fairyloot’s March box. I started reading this almost straight away, but what with various buddy reads and life in general getting in the way, I’ve only just finished it now at the end of May.

May Book haul
So I was a bit stuck for what to do for this week’s post, and then I remembered Victoria does book hauls. I think it’s a pretty good idea for when you’re stuck for a post (plus I may have gone a bit overboard with book buying this month)

REVIEW! Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi
I actually got this book on the 2 for £7 offer in Tesco and had been wanting to read it for a while. I'd seen a lot of people on Instagram raving about it, so obviously I had to see for myself and oh wow I'm so glad I did.
After reading back this post I can confirm it is almost spoiler free (but the kind of spoiler doesn't technically spoil anything!
