REVIEW! State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury

This was actually on my list of books to buy for a while, but it’s a good job I didn’t get round to that as it was the book for Fairyloot’s March box. I started reading this almost straight away, but what with various buddy reads and life in general getting in the way, I’ve only just finished it now at the end of May.
My Rating:
So the blurb for this book (taken from Goodreads) is:
Sorrow - for that is all she brings us.

A people laid low by grief and darkness.
A cut-throat race for power and victory.
A girl with everything and nothing to lose…

By day, Sorrow governs the Court of Tears, covering for her grief-maddened father, who has turned their once celebrated land into a living monument for the brother who died before she was born.

By night, she seeks solace in the arms of the boy she's loved since childhood. But one ghost won't stop haunting her, and when enemies old and new close ranks against her, Sorrow must decide how far she's willing to go to win...

This is going to be a very short review because my brain is struggling to let me write a review without adding spoilers. But I love this book and I’m really sad that it took me so long to finish reading, it has honestly had me hooked from the beginning. I think Sorrow’s character is just written perfectly and I really feel for her that her father never actually bothered being a father to her. Luckily for her Sorrow has her grandmother, two best friends and that’s all she really needs up until the first twist in this story. And oh boy are there a lot of twists! I love a story that’s completely unpredictable, it keeps me on my toes and most of all keeps me reading as I need to know how it ends... this book most certainly did that.

I’m sure I heard somewhere that this is actually a series and not a standalone book (which I hope so as I’m not ready for this to be over just yet) and I’m excited for more in this series. However, me being the impatient so-and-so I am is sad I have to wait and would very much like a release date for book two ;)
